GM is buying a small company that develops laser sensors for autos, which it says will speed up the deployment of autos
Driving technology.
GM said it acquired Strobe Inc.
A small but undisclosed sum from Pasadena, California.
Strobe will work with GM\'s Cruise Automation team in San Francisco to develop the next generation of lidar sensors.
Cruise Automation is testing an automatic electric Chevrolet Bolt car with a human backup driver on the streets of San Francisco.
The company says Strobe technology will reduce vehicle costs while accelerating large cars
Scale deployment.
But GM did not say when the technology could carry passengers.
The lidar sensor complements the radar and the camera, and the automatic car needs to use the lidar sensor under the condition of poor visibility.
